Watch for it and the chances for you to win some of my swag!

Fashion Week Dud?
As much as I love my semi-annual trips to the Big Apple and attending the circus known as Fashion Week, I am becoming more and more disappointed at the news in my inbox lately.
I suppose the economy is to blame...perhaps the news media could just shut up their talking about it so much and it would get better.
The Haute Market shopping event last Sunday was clearly NO indication of any economic slump. Many of my boutiques reported it being their most profitable Haute Market show ever!
So I'll get out my Midwest soapbox and scream "shut up y'all!"

Bag It
In just a few days I will be the proud borrower of this fabulous Gucci handbag courtesy of Avelle - the new Bag Borrow or Steal.
Nothing like carrying a two thousand dollar bag to put a little skip in your step!
These people take such good care of me and my loyal fashionistas. They have donated dozens of gift cards for borrowing credit which we have been giving away for our Haute Weekly prize drawings (just be a subscriber to be entered) and for the Haute Market shopping parties.
I borrowed a fuchsia Dooney as well for the next week, gives me a great pop of color.
Check out Avelle - the new Bag Borrow or Steal. Now with more than bags...sunglasses and jewelry too! Put a skip in YOUR step.

Boxing Bob
Good morning fashionistas. I was absent from posting yesterday as I was still recovering from the fabulous Haute Market shopping party on Sunday.
I was puzzled about the aching pain I felt, pretty much all over.
Then it came back to me...kicking Mr. Bob's ass kicked mine the next morning. My great friends at Title Boxing Club, the latest and greatest fitness craze by the way,
set up a mini stage at Haute Market, set poor Mr. Bob on there and let the ladies take a crack at it. Several ladies who endured very stressful weeks took some frustrations out on Mr. Bob.
I am the shy one and prefer sitting in the back drinking chocolate martinis versus being the center of attention. The things I'll do to get some attention for a business friend, however, is another story. So with bravery boosted by a few of the previously mentioned chocolate martinis, I demonstrated how truly comfortable my favorite pair of platform shoes really are.Thankfully my boys are in tae kwan do so I've learned a few things and only looked slightly ridiculous rather than full on. However after about three punches my arms felt like jello. What a wimp! This is why I promise to never fight back should someone want to mug me. I might chase you in heels to get my Prada back, but you can have the rest.
Punching is a different ball game, which is why I switched to kicking the crap out of Mr. Bob (thanks to my camera man for getting my best side - ugh, LOL).
A bit more comfort set in so the guys taught me to kick with the right, two punches with the right then a quickie with the left. Once I pictured a face or two on the dummy I was really taking some good cracks at it.
Moral of the story...usually isn't one with me....a fabulous work out can be had with a few hourly kick boxing sessions each week. It was both exhausting and exhilarating. Title Boxing Club now has two Overland Park, KS locations and one in Lee's Summit, MO. Check it out.
As for the fashion part of this segment...red top from Two Chic Blvd - very comfortable! Jeans, my favorite Eight14's. Shoes from Zara.

Friday ramblings & getting "JACK'd"
I'm not sure how thankful I am that it's Friday. The kids have no school today and I have a boatload of work to do to get ready for the Haute Market shopping party this weekend. Thank goodness for interns!
I have two interns now and I am so excited about them. One has been with me almost two months, the other wrote her first article a few weeks ago and is ready for more.
Also being added to the team is a fabulous woman I met at fashion week. Rosemary is an absolute fashion addict. She writes a fabulous blog in her spare time and is going to be a contributing writer here on the blog and on Haute Weekly. I don't know how she finds as much information as she does, but I'm sure glad she does it and you will be too.
I can't wait to meet up with her in New York! One more week until Fashion Week! I'm giddy!
Fashion Week means hanging with my gal pal Sarah. We'll be hitting the tents at Bryant Park and a fabulous beauty event which will leave me with loads of SWAG to give away for our weekly prizes. Make sure you subscribe to the newsletter to be registered.Lastly...listen to my fave radio station, 105.1 JACK FM today. I'm getting JACK'd!!
This afternoon I'll be chatting with DJ Jon Anthony about Haute Market and the Pajama Program.Have a fabulous Friday wherever you are. Please come to Haute Market this Sunday if you are in the Kansas City area. Make sure you bring a pair of new kids pajamas to donate to the PJ Program!

Great Hair Everyday
It is possible to have fantastic hair every single day that takes just minutes to fix, doesn't have to be washed but once a month, and looks healthy at all times.
Wigged Out is a fabulous new wig shop created out of love and compassion by Tina Herold. Heartbroken about her own terrible experience shopping for wigs to get through her chemo treatments, Tina knew there had to be a way to make it more tolerable for cancer patients.
As a cancer survivor (yay Tina!) she has the understanding and compassion to make this difficult time better for women facing hair loss. Wigged Out is a beautiful new wig shop located in Tina's home. The cheerful setting and adorable logo are indicative that this is a happy place created for any woman.
Tina has even made house-calls. Well, actually, hospital-calls. One woman heard about Tina's wig business as she was taking care of her daughter who was in the hospital. Her daughter wanted a wig. The girl couldn't come to Tina, so Tina went to her.You too can have a wig. You don't have to be experiencing hair loss. It's a great investment when you want a change, much like hair extensions, only easier to care for.
Visit the Wigged Out booth at this Sunday's Haute Market shopping event in Overland Park, KS. Try on a few wigs and have a bit of fun, get wigged out.

Super Bad
I confess that I watched most of the SuperBowl last night...even though I didn't know which teams were playing until a few days ago. I mostly get in for the commercials. Unfortunately they didn't live up to expectations set by advertisers in past Superbowl events. My fashion let down was Jennifer Hudsons outfit. I adore the jacket with the delicate ruffle trim, but the way it was shaped so that it widened at the hips and tapered back...uh uh...not good for her body type with the white shirt underneath. She was definitely a magnificent choice for the Star Spangled Banner...I just think gals with some hips should be selective about the clothing shapes they choose.
Bruce...all I can say is that I feel sorry for the camera-man who got the crotch in the face. Ugh Bruce.

Belts, baby dolls and Betsey
I love the fun, flirty creations put out by Betsey Johnson. The news that Betsey won't be showing at fashion week this February was very sad. Her shows are theatrical entertainment rather than simple aisle walking. But Betsey has a great online store with all her latest creations ready bagging.
One of my faves is this black belted coat with rolled leopard print cuffs. $375 online. Would look great with jeans and boots, my staple wardrobe lately. Also in the online store and appropriate for this time of year are the adorable picks in the intimates category. This babydoll would be a nice ending to Valentine's evening. $72
Check out the Betsey Johnson online store now and put a little fun and flirt into your winter fashions.

Hearts, Red & Charity
The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection show was one of my favorites last year at NY Fashion Week. Hosted by Laura Bush, the show models were all fabulous, famous women showing red dresses and gowns by some of the fashion industry's top designers.
This season, the charitable event features a different twist. This year, in addition to the Bryant Park production, The Heart Truth will auction some of the dresses via Clothes Off our Back, the celebrity clothing auction founded by actors Jane Kaczmarek and Bradley Whitford to benefit children's charities.
What can you score at the auction? The sequined Diane Von Furstenberg dress worn by Kelly Ripa. A Donna Karan creation sported by Rachael Ray. A Carmen Marc Valvo gown seen on Vanessa Williams, and more. I can't wait to see these designs!
A selection of the dresses will be displayed in New York at Rockefeller Center's Top of the Rock Observation Deck from February 14-21, and the auction begins at http://www.clothesoffourback.org/ on February 6. I'll be heading to Fashion Week on Feb. 14th and will definitely try to get photos posted of these amazing designs.

Kate's new line
Kate Spade just released a new line of bags, the Westbury collection. This beautiful blue shade is indicative of the spring colors to come. The slouchy style with drawstring is one we will see over and over this year.
About the line:
On New York's Long Island, the town of Old Westbury is a leafy pocket of stylish gilded-age estates which harkens to a time of grace and impeccable style. This collection is constructed of soft, supple tumbled and embossed cowhide in a smattering of sophisticated spring colors.
This bag, the Westbury Drawstring Opus, retails for $395 on katespade.com.

Monday - for the men
I don't usually make a peep about men's products, but with Valentine's Day quickly approaching I thought I'd better find some quick solutions for us busy gals to buy for our guys.
Smooth and soothe your man with this great gift:
SHAVE ESSENTIALS by ZIRH.
This kit includes SOOTHE post-shave treatment, SCRUB exfoliator and a tube of SHAVE GEL.
Washing with SCRUB just prior to shaving helps remove excess oil and dead skin cells, allowing an even closer, smoother shave. A $61 value. 3 pcs. - $39.00
What is ZIRH?
An award-winning men's skin care line favored by celebrities and pro-athletes. ZIRH's simple, problem-solution approach, effective ingredients and industrial packaging are why ZIRH ranks within the top 3 men's skin care brands in the US and is sold in dozens of countries worldwide. If your man travels much for work, he might need to trade in his raggedy travel bag for something new and chic.
This Perry Ellis Weekender bag. $119, with two 17" carry handles (Drop: 5") with snap-tab cuff and removable, adjustable shoulder strap with pad.
How the guys pack everything they need into something this small is a mystery to me. I mean, where do they put all the shoes?
To make him think only of you on those long trips, make sure you get to Haute Market and check out the lingerie, chocolate and body butters.
Stay tuned!

What She Wore
I'm not sure that any first lady has been so watched for her clothing selection than Michelle Obama. The fashion world waited on pins and needles to see whose gown she chose for the ball. That esteemed honor went to the talented young designer, Jason Wu. The one-shoulder gown was custom designed for the first lady.
I'd like to know what shoes she wore and her secret to surviving 10 inaugural balls last night! For the swearing in Obama wore former Anne Klein designer, Isabel Toledo's design. A beautiful ensemble with Swiss lace detailing and jeweled neckline. Wisely chosen as the citrus tones are a hot color for Spring.
Looking for a bit of lace for yourself? I found this Valentino Roma dress at Yoox.com on sale for $310.
At the Kids Inaugural: We Are the Future concert at the Verizon Center in D.C, Michelle wore J. Crew.
Earlier this week she wore Narciso Rodriguez.
The woman has more designer gowns than a movie star at this point. I will definitely be watching as our new first lady and style icon moves into her new position, and hopefully, her very large new closet.
Hey Jill (Biden)...we'll be watching you too.

Fashion on a budget
The economy is definitely causing some hurt, but I do believe it is getting better. At least it doesn't cost almost $70 to fill up the gas tank. It has, however, made me halt my shopping, or what I would rather call "research".
I've thought of ways to liquefy my assets. All those dresses in the closet that I've worn too many times, the one's I never wore at all and still have tags.
Should I organize a swap? Sounds fun, but I really don't have the time.
Perhaps ebay? But even there the designer dresses are going for such a fraction of their worth.
I just bought my first Diane Von Furstenburg dress for $365 in September. I wore it twice. I can't stomach selling it for $50. currently it's at Net-A-Porter (shown above) for $255.50, so maybe there is hope.
I just spotted a great black and white BCBG dress on ebay. Regularly almost $300, right now bid is at $90.99. What a bargain!
If you are looking at adding new pieces to your wardrobe, check out ebay or other similar websites.
Or get creative. Take all the "no longer wearing" items out of the closet and lay them on the bed. Think about how you might be able to layer an item to make a new look. Often a short sleeved dress can be put over a white long-sleeved dress shirt.
Try belting an a-line type dress, or getting a different color belt for an already belted outfit.
I'd love to know your ideas. Have you ever hosted or been to a swap? Tell me what you have done to conserve yet still look chic.

Luv Lulu
I absolutely adore Lulu Guinness handbags. This bag, Poodle Parlor, is a perfect example of the humor in the chic bags.
Famous for her scarlet red lips, her iconic signature found on many of the jewelry pieces, handbags and vanity bags. Carried by stars around the world, this is high-class with flair.Standing out in a crowd is rarely so glamorous and fun at the same time. It's definitely a signature style and you can make it all yours. though it's rather difficult to find in my area so I often score my artful bags from Avelle (Bag Borrow or Steal).
Right now you can get 30% off in the sale section at http://www.luluguinness.com/. Keep in mind that it is a UK based store so prices are in pounds, not dollars, plus there is the shipping. But for those interested in veering off the beaten path, following her own drummer, all roads lead to Lulu.
